Superintendent Meets with Students from Across the District

As part of the Superintendent Student Advisory Council students from every middle school, Eisenhower, and Davis met with Dr. Greene on May 16th. Students talked about student voice in Yakima, student policy work that is happening at the district level, and improving curriculum across the district.

Dr. Greene opened by discussing the importance of student voice in the district and listening to the diverse stories of our students while considering how we can incorporate that into how we design and lead our district.

A large part of the meeting was led by students with the adults in the audience. Here we see two Eisenhower students (Luanna Huang and Valeria Garza)  presenting work they developed with a Davis student (Conor Lincoln) around student voice policies across the nation and what a policy in Yakima could look like.

The meeting ended with a student circle to connect and share experiences in the district, along with hopes and dreams for the future of the district.

We will continue to uplift student voices in the district and look forward to the future of this group and the things they will build and create to improve the system for all of our students! Thank you to our student leaders for leading the work and our student participants for engaging in it!
